  • My least favorite episode is Medical Mayhem (Episode 3.3), and my favorite would have to be Underwater MenaceĀ (Episode 2.4). What are your favorite and least favorite episodes, and why?

    • My favorite was the finale of season 1 tied with the premiere of season 2, my least favorite was the one with the knight and the dracorex. I liked the finale/premiere because of the work that went into the future predators and come on, who doesn't like raptors? I didn't like Episode 3.7 (the dracorex one) because it seemed a little melodramatic and didn't handle how a rennasaince knight would react to a different language, a different world, etc.

    • Favourite episode of Primeval is season 1 episode 6, closely followed up by season 2 episode 1 and episode 7. I absolutely love season 1 and I love how all all 6 episodes come together to form this satisfying conclusion that sets up the potential for amazing season 2. I love episode 1 and 7 of season 2 due to its ambition and scope even tho a lot of stupid things happen that I loved as a kid but can't stand as an adult. Love the creatures and love the settings, can't get any better.

Least favourite episode would have to be season 3 episode 1. There are things to like about this episode such as the creatures, the setting, the subplot with Lester and it's one of the best world building episodes of series expanding the scope of the Anomalies but I really don't like this episode. The acting is really weak all of a sudden, wasn't a fan of Sarah or Becker, loved him from episode 6 onwards tho. It was hard to tell how long it had been since last season plus it feels totally different, to be fair season 2 felt totally different from season 1 but thay could get away with it there due to the timeline being altered but her it just feels uncomfortably off. We get a few references to Steven including a flashback and two awkward mentions of him from Connor and Abby, she says 'Steven would know what to do' which feels unrealistic to me due to the change in tone, it feels like it's been quite some time since season 2 like a year or 2 has passed but the way thay talk about him implies thay haven't done any serious missions since then but then later in the season, thay implied it's been a long time since Helen was last seen, in other words a lack of confidencey. Cutter didn't feel like Cutter and this is his last full episode before he dies, thay didn't do anything with him in the next episode either. One other thing that shows how bad things have got was Jenny (my second favourite character) joining Cutter and the gang at the beginning of the episode but then she needs to suddenly go back to the ARK as Lester needs to see her, he then tells her he's going to a meeting and gives exposition on Christian Johnson then she goes back to central London to help the team. What was the point in her going to the ARK? This is why thay eventually created Jess so Lester could interact with someone consistently. As a whole, season 3 is the most in consistent season of Primeval, it has the best creature of the week episodes but it's story telling is cartoonsishly bad, despite the amount of hate season 4 and 5 gets there 10 x more consistent than season 3 and the irony is, it was my favourite season when I was a kid. Sorry for the long rant, I love Primeval but it's not what I remembered to be honest and wish I had the power to put it back on tv.

    • I haven't watched the show in years, but if I had to speculate; my favourite if I rewatched it now would probably be either the Dodo episode or the Smilodon episode - I love how the former went from comical to unsettling to sad, and I love how the Smilodon episode was action-packed and had a few real scares for me as a kid, but had a sympathetic antagonist and rather tragic storyline with Valerie and the Smilodon.

My least favourite episode would be in Series 4. Either the finale with the Terror Bird, or the Labyrinthodont episode - the former because it was dissatisfyingly anticlimactic with the minimal creatures and Matt's wild-goose chase, seemingly serving no other purpose than providing some filler before Series 5; the latter because it felt very stale and has-been with the creatures-influencing-folklore thing and how downbeat it was in the episode, and it was the fifth dinosaur-like creature-of-the-week in a row on Series 4's stale creature line-up.

The Dodo episode is probably the best episode of the series tbh, it works on so many levels and the Smilodon episode is very underrated imo, it's one of the best examples of how to do a creature of week episode right that acts more as a good standalone story in the middle of a season.

Ironically, I found the season 4 creatures to be too similar with most of them beings gray with a lack of unique colours or details and as much as I liked the idea behind Patrick Quinn being some murderer from 1901 who mysteriously can drive a car and make a sophisticated bomb, the execution wasn't as good and like you said it was filler for season 5. Good listĀ :)
