Series 1 figures and other merchandise

Character Options are a company that produce high quality, collectable toys and action figures. Between 2007 and 2009, Character released a number of Primeval-related merchandise, with the main characters, and a couple of creatures, from Series One and Two being produced as 5'5" action figures and at least four other toys and devices were also made.

Character Options did not continue to merchandise for Primeval after Series 2, because the sponsors Woolworths went bankrupt following the Global Financial Crisis of 2008 however there were some maquettes of Series 3 characters/creatures created that are now in possession of Tim Haines/Impossible Pictures.[1]

Trivia

  • For the first and second series releases, there was one version of the Future Predator that was entirely grey (like Series 1-3) and another one that was a camouflage-like mixture of beige, dark brown, and black, this colour was never seen in the show. For the second series, a grey Predator with a Neural Clamp on its head was added to the releases.
  • As with most other promotional material and merchandise, Anurognathus was misspelled "Agnurognathus".

Prototypes

In December of 2023, a prototype of the Series 1 Abby Maitland figure appeared on eBay. These images were then posted to the seller @jorgiaus ' Instagram.

Doctor Who association

Due to Character Options creating Doctor Who figures in the same scale as the Primeval figures, there is a lot of cross association:

  • The Primeval sample packaging was different to the actual product packages and it had two Doctor Who action figures, namely a Slitheen and the Tenth Doctor, which were also made by Character Options.[3]
  • In 2012/2013, Character Options released a Rory Williams figure that reused Nick Cutter's Series 2 arms and legs. It had three colour variants.
  • In 2018, Character Options released a Bill Potts action figure that reused the legs from the Abby Maitland Series 1 figure and shoes from her Series 2 figure. It had two colour variants.
  • In 2020, Character Options released several Doctor Who action figures that also reused the whole bodies of Primeval models with new head sculpts:
    • Graham O'Brien action figure used the Stephen Hart figure. It had two colour variants.
    • Ryan Sinclair action figure used the Series 1 Nick Cutter figure. It had two colour variants.
    • Yasmin Khan action figure reused the Claudia Brown figure. It had three colour variants.
    • Romana action figure reused the Claudia Brown figure.
